I'm looking to streamline some operations for 2011 and was going to have the programmer start building an Intranet app for this but wanted to see if anyone had something else that was already adequate first.

Basically when a customer wants an ecommerce site, I want to have a system they log into where we request certain information from them that we need before building their site - like the text for their "about us" page and other pages, their products in an excel spreadsheet, merchant gateway information, any photos or graphics they require on the site, etc. And once they've uploaded this information the project manager reviews it and handles any back & forth with the customer to correct it if it isn't right. Once he's confident the web designers have everything they need to do the site, he approves it and the web designers see it on their to do list.

The key is to eliminate the "waiting" where a designer starts on a site but then has to stop and switch gears because we're waiting on something from the customer.

Before I build something from scratch, is there a system out there that already does this? Preferably web based?

I know that WORKetc has an extensive customer login portal.

Basically, the application combines project management with CRM, invoicing, and support, so that users can manage every aspect of their business in one place. WORKetc allows users to collaborate on all of these aspects as well, and with clients.

You can invite a client to login and use the WORKetc system based on privileges you set as an admin. WORKetc allows an unlimited amount of a user's clients to login and do things like collaborate on projects, send and reply to support tickets, view invoices, submit documents, etc.

Interesting, hadn't heard of that one & looks like it's definitely worth trying out.
