Can Social Share Harm a Site?

I am working on a site that has good inbound links and is a good performer in the serps...overall the site is healthy.
I am keen to add social share options on certain pages that are regularly updated and generally offer news and new info. The idea is to add this to give the person on the site an option to share the info and hopefully generate a little more noise and traffic / exposure. The intention is not for inbound links. My question is that i am concerned it could be harmful to the site....by leaving a bit of a spammy looking footprint.....so basically would like to know if there is any negative effect a social share option can have on a site?....and if anyone has had experience with social share options increrasing traffic at all?
thanks

nah. Use one of the many 'share' tool sites. Most you can even link to using a ip address (g won't index or pass alot of link pop via a ip address). So no risk involved - only benefits.

If you are worried I would just make sure your social links go directly to the big wig social sites and not through a 3rd party tool.
