Hi all,

Have recieved some FTP login details to upload some images but I cant login.

I get this error:

501 Please CLNT first.

Using FireFTP for Firefox, have never come across this error before. The server I'm trying to access is a windows iis 6.0 server, but yet ive accessed windows, apache and nginx servers before on ftp with no problem.

I have no other access to the server in question.
Is this something I need to worry about or do i need to tell the sites owners about this problem? If so, what do they need to do?

Thanks.

For those that are also struggling with this issue, I have found a possible solution.

Basically, the server doesn't like the way some FTP clients connect to the server.

So all you need to do is try another FTP client.

Not done much testing, but it may appear that sometimes accessing a windows server using an FTP client from Linux may not work properly, even runnig windows within a Virtual Box on Linux.

From a natively installed windows, one FTP client connected fine.
