Some days ago, I installed the new Skype version.

Suddenly has everything looking like a telephone number on a web site shown in MSIE a link to open the telephone number with Skype.

Here it's only a telephone number replaced by some Skype code.

Imagine Your publisher id replaced.

I find it terrible, that a software complete unrelated to MSIE can do such things.

Skype has been attempting to install a FF extension that does the same thing for a long time now. Would be surprised if that "feature" is new for Explorer.

The extension used to be automatically reinstalled/enabled with every upgrade. If I remember correctly, there's now a setting to suppress this.

The manual setting is available only if you download the "full installer" and do not use the "upgrade" feature.

It's a check box early in the install, possibly under some "custom installation" option dialog -- I don't remember the details.

It's a good idea to NOT enable the Skype plug-ins, because various sources report security vulnerabilities in the Skype plug-in code.
