Google Sitemap question

I find it weird that Google shows only 2 links as indexed out of 300 links in one of the sitemaps I've submitted in Google Webmaster Tools. I am sure that I can find many more links in Google, when I do a search. What does google mean by Indexed links in the Sitemap section?

Google indexed half of my pages without a sitemap. Now that i have submitted a sitemap it still says 'zero indexded pages' on webmaster tools. How many pages it list of your site when your type site:yoursite?
