I have quite a few websites but they are all on the same server.
They all link to each other and contribute to my page rank.
Is it true that having them on different servers might help?
Would using some free hosting services be ok to achieve this?

It depends ...
If the sites are getting good search engine rankings and lots of traffic, it's probably not a good idea to change anything.
But if they are doing poorly, then you should look at possible changes, including different hosts.

Free hosting services might not be the best solution. Some free hosting services inject ads on top of your content to monetize their service. Other free hosting services are used heavily for throw away sites for phishing, malware etc and may therefore be marked as bad neighborhoods by the search engines.

How about hosting in Canada for a Canadian Website? Would that give me a huge advantage versus hosting in the USA?
All my sites are Canadian sites but all are hosted in Texas....

If your target is Canada and you have a .ca country TLD, the main gain will be speed if you move the sites to a Canadian hosting company. But if you have a generic TLD like .com or .net then moving to a Canadian IP address can have positive effects on your rankings. In that case your sites will also become available in the "pages from Canada" SERPs.

They already are in Canada SERPs and actually in my Google Webmaster tools they are set up for Canada.
Would the difference be dramatic or is it not really worth moving 10 Joomla site to .ca hosting?

Are you asking if using the free hosting services as proxies is a good idea or if splitting the hosting of the sites off to free hosting is a good idea?
