hi, i have a small problem

i have lots of sites that cover local areas eg widgetslondon.co.uk widgetsbirmingham.co.uk that redirect to something like widgets.co.uk/london and widgets.co.uk/birmingham as they are of a larger structure

my question is : in the search engine results the domain widgets.co.uk/london appears and not widgetslondon.co.uk, is there something iam doing wrong. or something i need to do that iam not already doing

i have automatic sitemap generation on all sites, but is there a way to force the search engine to use widgetslondon.co.uk instead of widgets.co.uk/london ?

thanks in advance

Sounds like you are doing 301 redirects. This would tell search bots to use the destination as the real URL.

Can I ask why you are even using the separate domains in the first place?

if you want the search engine to index widgetslondon.co.uk instead of widgets.co.uk/london you must serve content on widgetslondon.co.uk instead of redirecting to widgets.co.uk/london.
if you have all of these as alias domains on the same server you may be able to configure things to internally rewrite to a subdirectory.
however in this case you would want to make sure you don't serve content to external requests for widgets.co.uk/london by externally redirecting those requests to the widgetslondon.co.uk domain.
