Closing down a website

I have a community-oriented website which draws a couple of hundred loyal users a day (not much I know).

The thing is I think I've lost interest in this site as the traffic has remained stagnant and I think those users will eventually lose interest in the site as well (I think they can sense when the owner i.e. myself has lost interest and it rubs off on them).

So I'm kinda leaning towards pulling the trigger and shutting it down so I can focus my energy and efforts on sites which I believe have more revenue, traffic and longevity potential. Not to mention less effort to maintain.

The thing that's holding me back is the amount of effort I've already put into this site and the face that those few loyal users may be disappointed with this decision.

Can anyone related to this?

Have you thought about selling it? even for a small amount?
Then the decision to pull the trigger isn't in your hands, or maybe someone else could revive it?

Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't scoff at that.

One of your users might want to carry the torch

ask the loyal users if they would like to take it over. then give it to one of them.

they should know about webhosting and updating the site.

Yeah I would offer it to one of your most loyal and active members. Let them run with it. Better than shutting down.

Maybe give it away but keep 25% ownership or something via a signed contract. You never know it might take off someday... =)

That's where I'd go too. Make inquiries anyway. If there's no interest.. well, do whatever you think is best.
