Hi there

I own the com and co.uk for a competitive UK term.

The co.uk is the site I am promoting however want to know if anyone can tell me how best to take advantage of owning the .com?

Should I

1. Build a small .com with 2-3 pages of unique content and link it to my mother site which is the co.uk? my thoughts are that because both sites use the exact same term this will benefit the co.uk.

or...

2. Should I simply re-direct the com to the co.uk? my thoughts on this are that google will see I am not playing games, I also wonder if they can tell that I own the phrase for both domains and give my co.uk a boost due to the branding angle? if this is the way to go would I also benefit by getting a couple of links to the re-directed com so Goggle can figure out I own both?

I have a lot of hard work ahead and do not think it will be a breeze to rank for this term however want to squeeze all the potential out of owning both.

All input greatly received.. thanks in advance.

There are both business and technical factors to consider here.

If you are trading solely in the UK then simply redirecting the .com to pick up any stray type in traffic is probably the best solution.

If you are trading overseas then any strategy suggested should take the specific markets involved into account.

Hi Piatkow,

I must admit it is looking like I will re-direct the .com, I did wonder if Google can see I own both domains and give me some kind of boost for the co.uk domain which is a competitive phrase. I did not want to waste any link advantage by linking www.mysite.com to mysite.co.uk ...

thanks
