Rank that important?

Hello, I'm new here. Not sure if this is the right place for this post..

I have been reading about SEO, Page rank etc till my brain is bleeding..lol

If page rank is so important..Why am I finding Websites on top of search engine on page 1...With a page rank of (0).

How is this possible?

Pagerank is not important. Don't worry about it. Focus on building a quality site/service and getting folks to take notice of you (ie - get links). That is the best formula for success.

The important thing is where you come in the SERPS for searches that are relevant to your topic. I used to run a site for a small local charity, the PR was rubbish but because the niche (topic + location) was so tightly defined we came top in all relevant searches.

Page rank is not important but main point is that where your site stand when search query run..If you have keywords like web development or designing and then you say i still found my site on first page whose PR is 0 then its not possible..The only way i think is just you write your site URL on browser bar..So work on PR to get on top

I'll think about buying some if they are also totally on topic for my site.

People get hung up on PR out of context. Having PR10 isn't much use if it puts you top if the SERPS for every possible search except the ones that will bring you paying customers.
