Adding climate/weather information to site

I recently added Google maps to my site (photo galleries structured hierarchically according to location). Now I was thinking of adding climate information for each location next to the maps, so visitors to my site can check when the best time for visiting is, what temperatures and rainfall, hours of sunshine etc. they can expect.

One way of doing that is to add simple links to a site which has this information, by passing either the geographical coordinates or the location name as parameters. Is this possible and what sites provide this information?

Alternatively I might simply add links to for instance the weather sections of Yahoo or weather.com or other sites with weather data, but that is more effort.

It would be even better if it was possible to embed directly the weather data (as charts, tables or simple text), so that people do not have to leave the site. I.e. in the same way as I am embedding Google maps, I would embed climate data. Are there sites providing this content?

Weather underground has an API and XML feeds. Check up on licensing conditions for this type of data. You might find that free use is limited to non-commercial sites.

I think Yahoo and Weather share/re-purpose some of their data.

Another option is the NOAA national weather service: [nws.noaa.gov...]

Thanks for the information. Perhaps I should have mentioned that my site covers Europe, Asia and Africa, but not America, so that US goverment site probably won't supply relevant data. I will check the other sites you mentioned.

Services like Weather Nation, All Headline News, Accu Weather have API's that you can access.

All Headline News is likely the cheapest, accuweather the most expensive.
