Hi Guys,

Say I have a site www.abc.com and it opens with abc.com also, means without www.

Now I don't want to implement a 301 redirect from non www to www domain. Can I still set my preferred domain as www.abc.com in the webmasters tool of google?

Thanks In advance

Yes.
Google actually seems to recognise that some mass market hosting services don't let you put in redirects and the preferred domain setting provides a partial resolution of canonical issues.

welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com], Auraminds!

the best solution is a 301 response but you can also use the canonical meta tag to specify your canonical domain.
