Adding Google maps to a photo gallery site

I have a large photo gallery site, with galleries structured hierarchically according to location, i.e. there is a country photo gallery which contains city and region galleries, which in turn contains subgalleries (structures, neighborhoods, buildings etc.)

Some income is generated from the site with Google ads and from the sale of photos.

The idea by adding the Google maps was to enhance the user experience, which indirectly (hopefully) will increase traffic, rank etc.

Since there are many ways of integrating a Google map into a photo gallery site, I was wondering what the best way of doing so is:
- how big the map areas
- what type of map
- what controls to allow
- where to position the maps
- what other map features to add

Or if you can point me to relevant threads or sites, this would also help.

Are your photos geo-tagged so that you could easily associate them with map coordinates?

Not yet. I have for the moment manually searched for the coordinates using Google maps.

I'm planning to buy a GPS logger for the future.
