My laptop is having some issues. If I'm typing in Word, for example, I'll be typing and suddeng what I'm typing starts appearing somewhere else in the document.

All the external keyboards around here aren't USB-compatable, their just green round plug ones. My laptop doesn't have green round plugs on it.

So I haven't been able to see if it is the built in keyboard, or if it is just a software glitch. Anyone else having this problem?

Have you checked your laptop for some malware or virus. Try installing some Anti Keylogger software too.

I've had that problem with my old laptop, even when it was brand new and it had never been online. I never did find a solution for it other than to be aware that it happens and to keep an eye on the screen. It might simply be connections under the keyboard having problems, or grit from the factory. I personally wouldn't be digging around in there in case I'd break something accidentally.

My best solution was to get a wireless external keyboard/mouse combination to use when at home, but that wasn't cheap. Neither are the USB keyboards if you can find them.

I've noticed the same thing some time ago on my old laptop. Turns out, it was my hand quickyl touching the touchpad and it registering that as a mouse click, thus moving the cursor to wherever the mouse was located. check wether that's the case with your laptop, you might be able, just for checking, to disable that "short touch means click"-feature of the touchpad.

I, too, also had this annoyance, and it was as janharders mentioned, the touchpad..i've since disabled mine since I have a USB mouse plugged in.

Just as janharders mentioned, I've had the same problem with accidentally touching the mousepad. But in additon to this, I've noticed that the cursor will still move occasionally without touching the mousepad.

With a bit of experimentation I've noticed that this happens only while I'm typing and my palms are resting on the areas located on either side of the mousepad.

My theory is that I'm applying pressure to this area which, for whatever reason, registers with the mousepad as a mousepad touch. I'm not pushing down, but merely the weight of my hands seems to be enough to change the position of the cursor.

I've noticed that since I've been aware of this and actively trying to not apply pressure in this area, the problem hasn't occured for quite awhile.

Thanks everyone for your helpful replies. I think you have diagnosed the issue correctlty, becasue sincc I disabled the touchpad, this problem has not happened. I use an external mouse anyways. Thanks much!
