ucla.edu does not allow "generic" reverse DNS entries

When I try to send an email to a customer with a ucla.edu email address, the message bounces and I'm directed to this page:

[info.smtp.ucla.edu...]

which says:

"The gateway disallows direct connections from residential broadband systems, from other dynamically allocated IP addresses, or from hosts with "generic" reverse DNS entries (ie, a variation of A-B-C-D.isp.com for D.C.B.A)."

I do have a "generic" reverse DNS entry. Does anyone know how to fix that?

Subscribe to an SMTP (outgoing mail) service. I was planning to drop mine when it came up for renewal this year (I also subscribe to a separate incoming mail service that also allows SMTP). When the renewal came through, the annual cost was so low it was easier to pay than to reconfigure all the family's email clients!

(...and they should have an SPF record that you can include in your SPF record to say which addresses are allowed to send email from your domain which will help with other spam filters as well.)

No idea but simply spouting technical jargon at a domestic broadband user who probably had pay somebody to set up their router isn't the best of responses.

Try doing a POP3 (receive) before sending. Another option is to set your email client to log in before sending. Sometimes using IMAP bypasses this issue as the real problem the email server sees may not be disclosed in the error.

Good grief. Who came up with that. I would just blow them off.

Sane as we always do with people that use 'spam blockers' that require a 'one time confirmation' to get a message through. They just don't get any email from us, receipts, tracking numbers.....
