Hi all,

I have been given the job of creating a new page for an exiting website.

There is the old main domain name which is hosted and I have the FTP details for

www.oldsite.com

Then a new web address has been set up on this account as:

www.new-website.com

and now the oldsite.com is being redirected to the new one.

So I have downloaded the site but have got the www.oldsite.com files, which are the same as the new-site ones, created a new page, uploaded it and I cant get to it.

When I go to the cpanel for the oldsite I can see the file I have sent there, but how do i get it to the redirected site.

I really hope this makes sense, Kinda doesnt to me when I read it back.

Cheers
Geoff

Sounds like all traffic from www.oldsite.com is being redirected to www.new-website.com, so none of the changes or additions you'll make on oldsite.com will be visible to visitors. You need to upload the new page and all future changes to new-website.com.

Hi idfer,

I know what you mean, this is so hard to explain.

They have one hosting plan, for both domains.

When I log onto the cPanel and look at the files I can see my changes in front of my eyes, just sitting on the server.

But, when i type in either oldsite.com or newsite.com I get taken to newsite.com and none of my changes are on it.

I have tried removing the re-direct and then re-enabling it hoping it will pick up my newly edited files, but it hasnt.

Am i missing something here, must they have a second hosting plan or what?

Well if you're maintaining the website, you should find out all the info on new-website.com, at the very least find out where and how it's hosted, ask the client. You can also look in the add-on domains section of the cPanel for some clues. If new-website was added later to the same account, it's quite possible it serves files from a subdirectory, probably named after the domain itself, but that depends entirely on the host's setup. What kind of server is it, Linux/Apache or Windows?
