Any clues about how to speed up the time open a shared folder takes (windows xp) I use to open a folder in other pc very fast but now takes several seconds (some 30) before opening... why is that?

These are shared folders on the local PC, a virtual PC located on the local PC, or on networked PCs?

on networked pcs but also folders with shortcuts in same pc takes long. A shortcut to "C" drive takes a lot. But a doubleclick on the C real icon not.

Is the reverse true? Are the other PCs having the same trouble opening shared folders on the PC in question?
