Amazon Threatens to Discontinue Associates Program for All North Carolina Resident

NC affiliates will no longer be welcome at Amazon if legislation passes.

Received an email from Amazon today that ...

[threatened to end its relationships with North Carolina-based Associates if the North Carolina state General Assembly passes new tax legislation]

I hope others don't follow suit! This could be huge for online marketers in NC and time to move out of the state. Pack it up and go home! It's been real.

Funny thing is NC is always voted as one of the top places to do business or greatest place to live and work. But now they are going to start imposing affiliate tax to businesses who do $10K+ affiliate sales from North Carolina residents. This may make many business pull affiliate programs such as Amazon did, or even make big corporations leave the state if they do major online sales. Not the best move, especially during an economic time like this.
