Architecture Terminology

Are parent and child outmoded terms?

Hi,

I couldn't find a Design forum so hope this post is okay here. When I was putting together some questions for client as we go forward with design and then development, the developer I'm working with said that I really shouldn't use the term parent and the term child. They are outdated and it makes me look bad to be behind the times.

I was wondering if others have heard this or feel this way? If I don't use those terms, what terms should I use to describe that kind of page/file relationship?

Thanks for your help.

I've never heard of anyone saying those terms were outdated, but I use the terms primary or main, secondary and tertiary.

Or just 1st level, 2nd level, etc. Whatever gets the point across I guess.
