Tags-based image gallery

Hello,

I wasn't sure which forum to post this question in...

I would like to put an image gallery on my website, but I don't want the standard gallery that just takes pictures from folders on my server. I want the pictures displayed in the gallery to be called using tags (such as on a site like flickr where you can search for a specific tag and it brings up all pics with that tag)

I would (maybe) like this gallery to work with picasa (so I can either type in a tag in a search form, or click on a pre-defined tag on my website, and it calls up pictures from my picasa album)

Does anybody know if something like this exists? Either using picasa, or just a database or folders on my own server would work for me. I just figured it might work well with picasa since there is already a tagging system and google has released a data api for picasa.

or maybe I don't want it to work with picasa, since I have just read that picasa images are not indexed in google search database...

maybe it would be best to host the images on my own server... any thoughts?

Flickr and Picasa have web gallery options you could use. Why don't you want to use them if they have the functionality you want?
