Why do people go on Search or Search Engine Results Pages?

Because it was suggested to them to do so, by a chicken ,just prior to it's crossing of a road ?

^ ^ LOL :-)

Welcome aboard v_seo. I think, possibly, a language barrier may have made your question a bit obscure.

A majority of them don't even know they are doing it. They click the button "connect to the Internet" and aren't even aware it's launched a browser. All they know is it's the Internet.

These users usually leave their "Internet" in it's default configuration, which is usually an overladen "home page" in a frameset or some other convoluted proprietary layout. The address bar is often hidden, all they see is a big SEARCH at the top. And that's where they type example.com.

For many, this is how they browse the Internet. I had one client that, for years, complained his website wasn't coming up, I'd type it in, it was fine. Come to find out his address bar was hidden from visiting "P sites" and he was searching via a search engine (his site wasn't indexing because it was all image-based.)

Those that "know" all this stuff search because they know it's the shortest distance to locating information . . . obviously.

Wow, so this is the cool room. I thought I heard the twilight theme playing for a second...

Anyway, no, I don't believe people think when looking for things on the net. They use search engines so that they don't have to think.

People Search for 3 main reasons.
#1 - to find/buy a product
#2 - to learn more about something specific
#3 - Boredom and related needs.

If you want more traffic help them with one of those three topics. Show them more products, teach them something new and exciting or cater to a temporary release... of boredom.

Welcome to WW.
