The newspapers struggles are on government radar

President Obama said

A government without newspapers, a government without a tough and vibrant media of all sorts is not an option for the United States of America

in his speech at a black tie dinner tonight.

Those are strong words. I agree that media can ensure a government remains honest but I don't believe the solution is to dumb down internet to let newspapers earn more profit.

There has to be a better way for newspapers to profit without touching the internet at all but if one isn't found, do the presidents words loom ominous over potential new internet regulations?

BHO has also thanked the media he wants to save for being so supportive (ie. blindly supportive) of his campaign and presidency. Beware any government support for the media (or control of the Internet) as that is just a step away from ...

There's too many historical references as to where that path goes.
