I am curious how to get non-targeted traffic to a website. Most of those businesses out there promise 1000 hits for $8 or something like that. Im sure 99.99% are fraudulent but I was wondering if there are any out there that might be free or legitimate?

I dont have access to the website to do the typical SEO elbow work and I'm not selling anything. I just want to drive any traffic to the site!

thanks!

Tried and true is back links from established sites... organic... word of mouth... blogs... simple stuff that takes time and effort. All free of cost but not free of time and effort. You are correct in thinking gimmicks promising hits for x-dollars will not work. They take your money, you get nothing in return.

Thank you for your response. What I am curious about how a click works. Why is it a website will only count your hit once and how long will it take until it counts your click again as another hit (traffic).

Is it because websites that use algorithms track your IP address? I know what you guys are thinking yes I have tried the clicking thing but I read that IP Address limits your click to once every 24 hours or something like that.

What confuses me even more is one person told me they cloak their IP Address. Which sounds fishy but would the website not even count his click as a hit if his IP address was cloaked if thats even possible?

thanks!

I've been doing this since 1995. How that click works remains a mystery (small joke, but true nonetheless). Tracking unique IP addresses is a farce, but does give marginally cleaner metrics of use per 24-hours than other tracking methodologies. Cloaking/proxy addresses only adds to the confusion. Taking the original query in consideration: count what happens. Filter as needed by criteria developed over experience to get what appears to be unique results. And yes, cloaking does occur...
