Hi,
As an inexperienced web guy, could someone let me know if this, using a subdomain, would be a good way to present and have indexed the foreign language editions of our site

www.example.com

http://kwkwkw.example.com
kwkwkw in the foreign language of course and say a translation of "big red widgets" for example

Thanks
Michael

If not , any suggestions welcome

If it is targeted to the country associated with the language
then country specific domains probably better, such as example.fr for french.

it would be more useful to use a cctld as daveVk suggested (keyword.example.fr) or a country/language specific subdomain or subdirectory such as fr.example.com/keyword/ or keyword.example.com/fr/ but using only the foreign language translation of a keyword for the subdomain doesn't send much of a signal.

you should also make sure you properly specify language and character set for the document.
