Hi Ffolkes,

I'm building a members only hosting service and am trying to find
suitable software that won't break the bank (mine that is :) ) so they
can create their own Websites online using just their Browser.

I've written my own, but it's VERY basic so want to find an 'Advanced'
Site/Template editor. I'm currently exploring [a few commercial website builder software suites] (very expensive)..

Does anyone know where I can get this type of software that will run
on a Linux server with or without Perl/PhP ?

Thanks,
Nick. . .

Welcome to WebmasterWorld Nickalf.

A lot of CMS packages could do that for you. Take a look at the opensourceCMS site and try a few of them out. They're all free.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for your comeback..

I've been playing with Joomla/Mambo and am going to offer three editor levels:

1) My basic editor for newbies
2) The one I'm looking for now for goof proof advanced site creation for newbies/intermediates
3) Joomla for the experienced

Problem with Joomla is, I've found no viable multi-site configurations - Some are out there, but
don't work that well. What that means is, I'll have to create a full Joomla for each member that
requests it and, if my system becomes very popular, that will take up a major amount of space.

But that's not my quandary here - It's finding level 2 software so they can easily create a website
from the ground up without having HTML experience - Do you know of any CMS packages that would fit 'that' bill ?

Thanks,
Nick. . .

welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com], Nick!

have you considered WordPress MU (multi-user) [mu.wordpress.org]?

Hi Phranque,

Yes - I'd looked at it but it's mainly for Blogs - I need full Website creating...

I'm checking Drupal right now - has potential but may still not do it as well as those others I originally mentioned...

Thanks,
Nick. . .

I'll drop in my recommendation for MovableType. It's not just for blogs. It's a full featured CMS now. I've used it to create sites that have no blog on them at all.

bill: i didn't realize MTOS (movabletype open source) had a multiuser product.

nick: many installations are using WordPress as a CMS [codex.wordpress.org].

Unlike the commercial version of MT, MTOS [movabletype.org] supports an unlimited number of blogs/sites, and as many authors as you like.
