Hi all! I'm a newbie on internet marketing and I don't know much about SEO all these. The challenge for me now is I'm assigned to improve our company's website. I have read quite a number of articles on how to improve SEO but I have to admit that not everything I can understand and know how to implement it. Lately my boss even set another target for me, he wants me to improve our website traffic ranking to <100,000 within 3 months which means he will review the result end of March. He is using the traffic ranking result at alexa.com to judge. I believe there are some people saying the result is not really accurate because it only capture the visitors who are using the Alexa toolbar. So I can say maybe there are still many of our website visitors are not captured in the alexa traffic result. My problem now is I have checked the traffic ranking everyday and it is still maintained at 951,080 for few weeks so still a long way to go for me to achieve the target. I really run out of idea on how to improve the traffic. Is there anyone can give me some advice on how to improve the traffic ranking and is there any other more reliable source for me to check the traffic ranking? Please help. Thanks.

I bet if you had a few friends and family members search the Alexa site for your company website once a day for a month it would climb into the top 100,000. You don't even have to use the toolbar. Just have them go to Alexa.com and search for your company site a few times a day (or week).

Unfortunately it is that easy to manipulate.

unless your boss is prepared to spend some money on advertising, i think he's being unrealistic. the only real way to increase your traffic ranking that much in such a short space of time is by getting loads of incoming links. just doing on-page SEO won't cut it.

but here's the catch-22 -- google will discount the links if it thinks you're obtaining them too quickly. you can't just bang them all in straight away and expect your ranking to rise.

he needs to spend some money on getting just a few really great paid links, or he needs to spend some money on per-per-click advertising.
