Using free vector art

does anyone know the limitations to using free vector art?

there is the GNU general public license on the sites but it seems to be geared toward software...

here is what im doing... all of those "free vecot art" sites that come up from a google search...

i have taken several free vector art works, kind of taken the best of each one, compiled it into my own creation and made my own graphic...

i want to use it in some marketing material for our company...

that should be ok right? since its not the original artwork being used? and its "free" to download and use...

please correct me if i am wrong.

I'm assuming the sites have some kind of Terms of Use that you should go over. If you simply don't know try contacting them to make sure it's OK.

the GPL can be applied to artwork as well as software. If you have used artwork licensed under the GPL to create a new piece of artwork, then according to the GPL license, your new piece of artwork must also be licensed under the GPL.
