Hi folks,

I'm just getting bak into the proper world of cool web stuff having been out of the game for quite a time.

I'm creating a community (and visitors to the area) website for my local community company.

I have managed to come up with some pretty handy and I like to think imaginative uses of some forum software integrated into the site, but what I really want as the final icing on the cake is a means of users being able to publish stuff to the site (from on the site) perhaps in different categories about whatever they wish. Articles on this and that, or just whatever they want in a less restricted fashion than a forum.

I have got hold of wordpress and been giving it a test, but it doesn't seem to go much at all into being able to assign different users different permissions as to where they can post stuff.

A friend of mine has recently mentioned 'content management systems' but I know bog all about them, I'm going to look into them now, but I wondered if anyone had any bright ideas about anything out there I could install simply for the kind of job I'm after.

I hope that made some sense!
Cheers

I'm trying out joomla just now, and getting stuck into template design just for the hell of it.

I hate to sound supremely ignorant haha but I've no idea about a 'wiki' atall...I'll just check the wikipedia site?

Cheers!

Joomla might be your best bet as it seems to be geared to non-technical folks. If you want more customization, and don't mind writing a bit of php, you might take a look at Drupal.

But I have a feeling Joomla might be the best fit for you.

Thanks very much, I'll look up Drupal, assuming it's another cms.
I don't mind getting into a bit of php, I don't know too much about it but I've been doing well enough pasting bits of code from here and there to make a new template for joomla. I like it so far but I still get the idea I'd like more control over different user permissions, maybe I just haven't looked into that side of it enough yet tho, I've been concentrating on making it blend! It might just all come together when my template is done. I note that registered authors still have the option to post in any section or category that exists at the moment. That's really what I was trying to restrict! But it's a large step up from wordpress haha!

Ohh, quick Drupal question; Just looked at the site, looks great and fairly like Joomla, but my problem is (much fun and a great kick as it is learning lots of new stuff) I tried wordpress, spent a while learning how to make templates to make it fit my site, decided it was...not what I wanted, then got Joomla and have just spent ages figuring out and designing a new template which is coming together, is Drupal similar enough in terms of templates that I won't feel like I'm doing that all over again (although they say third time lucky)?

People are getting a bit bored of my endless tweaking and wondering when the site will be up. I guess I could just install drupal on the site too and play with them both side by side? as neither of them will be controling the whole site, just a little 'publish yourself' bit.

Cheers
