Hi all,

Got a bit of dilema...due to the (rather rubbish) host of this particular website im working on, they dont allow 301 redirects either via the control panel or htaccess, nor can i make html files parse php via the htaccess. (both are dissallowed on shared servers).

Im wondering if theres any other way of making some 301 redirects from html files to php files as ive updated the site, and all the pages are php based, so the site doesnt lose any page rank and visitors coming from inbound links dont get a 404.

Im a bit sceptical about using meta redirects on each page, and it involves have twice as many files as needed on the server. Plus, we need to write on every single page that the visitor needs to update their links, and that the linking site also needs to update their site to the correct page.

The only other thing is to move to a dedicated server, but thats £50+vat per month more(!).

Sounds like time to find a new host. It is not true that "the only other thing" is a dedi -- there are plenty of low-cost shared hosting companies that allow both 301 redirects and parsing of html files as php.
