how does Cuil's category search work?

I was wondering a couple of things about Cuil.

1. They have an explore by catergory on the side of the page which when you search fills with quite interesting information.
This information to my knowledge needs to be captured some way ?
how would they do this ?

through their spiders ? that would lead to a very hard task as it needs to be summerised by heading ?

I am aware that the data is not 100% accurate to the topic ?
Well i searched for shoes and some films came up so i assumed it was incorrect.

I am thinking that this comes from users typing search queries ?

Don't worry too much over the details of cull. It won't be around past the end of the year.
