If I load up this url

http://www.example.com/com

I get a .mac page saying: "we can't find the iWeb page you've requested"

firstly the url example.com is a completely different company - it seems to go to a page on apple.com - second there is no extension (.html .php etc)

what a 'gwan?

the page you are seeing is the standard 404 Not Found error page as provided by the hosting company.
there is no extension for that url because you didn't provide one in the request and the server did not respond with a redirect to a url that provides one.
