Windows malicious tool removal
If you use Wins then you already figured that once a month (every second Tuesday) Wins force feed us with a tool update
I decided to figure what that stuff is doing
When downloading the update it performs a quick scan, looking for
“Malicious pests” but it says not to compete with the usual AV and only looking for some specifics (which one?)
I suspect, but that’s me, that by the same token it looks in depth for non authorized MS prgms.
But, surprise! It could perform also some good cleaning
If you want to run it for a full scan, then open “Run” and type mrt.exe
It takes a few secs to crank on then follow the next…
And choose a full scan
It found a virus that I did not know about, on my dedicated web search machine.

The Malicious Software Removal Tool [microsoft.com] runs in the background when you visit Windows Update. It looks safe to run manually as often as you like, but the number of softwares it scans for seems limited.
