One reason that I recently had to do was to use an IP dedicated to a domain to be used as a DNS server. Normally, you use the initial IP for this and get new IP's as you install certs. But you really need two IP's for a primary and secondary DNS, and if you overlook this in initial setup . . you will need another.
(Before you all go flaming me, I know the P & S are *SUPPOSED* to be geographically dispersed and in different class C's. :-) But it is a way to clean up your DNS report, although not the best. We can take this up in another thread . . . . )
But I would be cautious about just throwing them a reason just for the IP. They do check, we had some trouble with one client's domain name transfer and didn't get their SSL cert installed in a timely manner - they were all over us to get it done or they'd take back the IP. So they DO check up on them.
A last bit, that $2.99/month charge is a pain in the A, when it comes time to renew they lump it all together with your dedi charges.
