I yesterday received an email from the "Google Search Quality Team" notifying me that one of my websites has had 'hidden text' inserted into the HTML code. They informed me this is usually a third party running scripts on my web server that insert the text into my HTML files. My site has been removed from Google’s index, although they have welcomed a reinclusion request when the problems have been fixed (which seemed pretty fair of them).
My first step was to upload all the original files to the server, thus replacing the files that have been modified.
My next step was to email my hosting company to let them know what had happened and whether they could advise. Their reply was "Your site has scripts running through it, you need to make sure that those scripts are secure and updated to avoid having your site hacked."
Of course, I do not run any scripts on this website, and have no idea where these scripts are 'running from'!
Can anyone advise what you would do in this situation? If I take no action will these lines of 'code' reappear at some point?
I have requested that the hosting company completely 'reset' the server to its original state, at which point I can simply upload my files.
Any suggestions?
Many Thanks-
