I need a solution to transfer large files with no software installs on client machines, so a browser based solution is needed.

The files will be upto 2gig and need to be transferred by clients from the extranet. Some of the users have quite basic PC skills so the solution needs to be simple.

I was looking into browser based ftp products, but they seem to have problems with browser time-outs.

Ive also looked into off the shelf [web-based] products but the upload speeds in the UK are quite low

Any ideas or suggestions?

Jon

welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com], Jon!

in my experience you might be ok using the http protocol for uploads if the files are about 100MB or less.
by the time you get to 200MB uploads you will typically have problems with timeouts - even with reasonably fast upload speeds.
on my dsl line that 2GB upload might take a day or more.
it is simply not an efficient or reliable enough protocol for large file transfers especially for upload.
use ftp.
