I made some SEO (page title) changes to one of my sites the a week ago and I noted my result position for a bunch of keywords.

Today I checked those same keywords and noted that my position had dropped (not a great deal) for almost all keywords.

Should I change things back now or wait longer?

It is all relative to the changes that took place. Did you change titles completely or did you just add a word here and there along with some shuffling?

Today I checked those same keywords and noted that my position had dropped (not a great deal) for almost all keywords.

How about for the last 90 days? What were your positions on an hourly basis for those same keywords? :)

Should I change things back now or wait longer?

Don't change anything just yet. <title> Element changes may take a bit to recalculate. Depending on how the title changed and what the page markup is will determine what may eventually settle in. A drop in positions would not be a major concern unless it went AWOL from the first 20 at which time I'd still wait it out as it is too late at that point. To make another change would only drag it down further I think.

If you made <title> changes without taking into consideration the page markup, internal anchor text leading to that page, etc., you may have changed the meaning of that page and disrupted the indexing routines. All you can do now is wait and see. Hopefully your titles did not become diluted with keywords or phrases that the page is not "naturally" optimized for.

I only changed the order of the first three keywords, nothing major at all, although the order of these first three keywords is now similar to other sites in my niche.

I think i'll leave things as they are for a while longer then!

But wait, many would consider that to be a "major change".

Although the order of these first three keywords is now similar to other sites in my niche.

And that would be a "major concern".

It was more of an experiment really, maybe I should give it another week and if things are not improving on this week, change back.
