Proving once again that most politicians have no ideas about the "tubes" that connect all the people and computers with information, Mayor Bloomberg of NYC kicked off "Internet Week NY" with a rousing, "I dunno why?"...

"...an “open source” happening. In other words, they issued a press release describing Internet Week, and let most anyone who wanted to hold Web-related events become part of the festivities".

The events scheduled look like a Nobody Who's Who list of unknown startups, some big time advertising shmoozers, and the technological highlight: a beerfest!

I wonder if anyone attending will even discuss the fact that many people do not want to do business in or near NY since the state feels it's entitled to a cut of every dollar passing near their "tubes", (see: "NY Threatens Online Stores With Sales tax Audit",

Maybe this should be considered New York's going away party for the Internet (in New York). They could have a giant server drop at midnight in Times Square.
