Getting Back Into The Website Game

Hi everyone,

I am getting back into the website game after a couple of years layoff. I am currently getting ready to work on my Math Dr, but I used to support myself solely off of website income at the end of highschool. This was largely through the get paid to surf schemes... Anyways, I have always enjoyed website building, graphic development, and the business side of websites, so I have decided to get back into it. It is something that I would like to look at taking seriously and possibly making my fulltime income off of, but for the meantime, while I build up, some supplementary income would be nice.

Anyways, the first site I am putting up is a news blog. I will be registering a domain as soon as I get everything finished. The site has 0 content yet, but I have gotten the barebones part up.

Any suggestions on the best ways to generate traffic once I get the site up? Is the current blog format the best way to go about as far as generating traffic via Google or other engines? Any ideas in regards to changes in format and ways to bring traffic via search engines at the best rate possible would be greatly appreciated as this is obviously still in the barebones state.

One other thing, in regards to advertising, I plan on going with Google Adsense, one clothing site via a third party service, and gambling sites. I am very well versed in gambling, betting, as well as [the sport], so I plan on making this one of the bigger focuses of the site. Any thoughts in regards to these advertising sources......... the clothing site, from what I know, has a good reputation.

Any other ideas for a guy getting back into the website game in regards to traffic generation, layout, and optimization of a site to make money the most efficiently would be great.

Thanks much for your time!

Welcome to WebmasterWorld acidsin. The gimmicks work less well these days, to be successful in the long term, the basics are the same as they have always been - link-building, great fresh content, a unique angle.

One difference is the increasing importance of social networking sites and aggregators such as Digg and others. They are a good way of not only getting traffic, but also garnering links.
