Sites with specific niches will always have an advantage over sites like Myspace and Facebook.

Most people I know who use Myspace are getting bored with it because they can't find anything worthwhile to do (other than look at other people's profiles, or listen to starving artists' music.)

I despise MySpace. Who needs that many high school kids to send them offers for free ringtones?

Of course, I'm so out of the social networking loop that I haven't run across any of these Niche-Book/Space type places. Sounds cool! As long as they keep the "free" offer spam out, of course.

I found a brilliant social networking site last night which even downloaded beer. The only problem was that I had to switch the PC off and get out of the house.

There is a huge body of niche forums and newsgroups. If some of these are starting to move into newer web technology it isn't exactly suprising.
