I am changing the company name i have on record with my hosting co.
Do do that i have to fax them various details, contract/account no's etc, but also the Password to my hosting account.
How big a security risk would you consider that? Is that a standard request?

I would never consider a request for a password -- a standard request. Then again, I don't know who your ISP is, or why they need your password for a company name change.

If you're in the U.S., do you have an EIN# attached to your company name? If so, is that number changing, or is this simply a name change?

Its in the UK - and its just a change of company name.
As it happens i also have an account with (a hosting company) in the US, and their helpdesk is demanding i divulge the Password before getting access to the non-public forums.
I'im get the impression that isp's/hosting companies don't really understand what a Password is, and how it should be used.
