Do you know of a free tell-a-friend script that has the ability to import contacts from Gmail,Yahoo, etc. address books?

I would be wary of any of these scripts because you may be opening up your customers to serious spam or worse. A similar script which was used to backup gmail accounts (and required users to enter their usernames and passwords) was found to actually be harvesting all of these emails into an account owned by the guy who wrote the script.

Yes, I've heard that news few days ago.

But if that's the case, then isn't Myspace and Facebook facing the same trouble?

kb1100, I went to the plaxos website and asked on their forum if it capable of "import contacts" for tell-a-friends scripts and still awaiting for answers.

killua, I don't believe your question is relevant to the issue raised by physics. Physics was refering to the importing scripts built by somebody else, and used by your website to help the visitors import their contact list from their respective email accounts.

The link provided by the second poster is not free of the problem physics raised. If you get it built or download a copy from somewhere, you better be checking the source code in it to prevent yourself and your visitors who could potentially be exposed to this problem. If your script does include a file from a different server out of your control to complete the tasks, then I think you are again potentially inviting a problem home.

I see. I understand now. So websites who use the "import contacts" scripts for use for tell-a-friend or others, are usually programmed by themselves, correct?

Is there a simple tutorial somewhere that can help me create such script?
