Can someone name an external (“nonmarket”) environment of the website business which had a strong impact on the profitability of it?

by nonmarket I mean the external environment, foreign effects not directly related to the website business!

for example oil price going up could have an effect on websites revenue!...im looking for a better example but cant think of any.

nonmarket could be the government, interest groups, activists, and the public.

In my example the oil price mentioned is the factor that the government sets which could effect profits! I am looking for better examples though.
