submitting a new site to web directories

your thoughts on manually sending your URL to these directories

Recently launched site on December 9th last year. Already has a page rank of #3 (I realize the non-importance of PR . . . but) because I linked it to an already PR5 site I already operate. Question pertains to submitting the URL to these web directories. I am selecting the "free" (non paid - no reciprocal) option and have already manually selected & submitted to roughly 150 different directories throughout this month.
Please advise as to whether or not this philosophy helps a web designer so far as the "one way" "back links" are concerned. I have already been accepted into 40 of them by the way. I immediately registered it with DMOZ, of course they're considered a joke these days....but how do you feel regarding web directories in general. Some have accepted me in the 2, 3 & 4 PR and even a directory with PR5 rank has taken me under it's wing.

For Google to take your site seriously, you need links from a good cross-section of sites, not just one type.

it's okay to have some free directory listings in your mix, but note the words "some" and "mix".

If you've already submitted the site to that many free directories, it's time to work on new strategies that will develop a broader variety of links.

Buckworks:
Your input is greatly appreciated and well understood. I also have mention of the URL on some blogs, social networks, a few forums (as mentions, not plain spam) and additioanl reciprocal links on sub pages within the site itself.I was assuming it's good to get a health site mentioned on a blog about "health"...not, say, web design. So if you could elaborate more on what you mean, please!
When you mention "mix", please emphasize a bit more.
