Windows Live SkyDrive [skydrive.live.com] is out of beta and they have added a bit of storage to the service, now 5GB.

Store files for yourself
Using multiple computers? No problem. Store and access your personal files from anywhere online.

Share files with friends
Sharing with friends, co-workers, or family is easy when you all add and update files in a shared folder.

Share files with the world
Some ideas are too good to keep to yourself. Share them in a public folder that only you can update.

Microsoft has beaten Google to the punch with this free online storage service. It will be see what Google's offering has.

Good stuff, I always have worries about security when storing stuff online, but for anything that you aren't worried about, might be useful.

Could cause some security risks. But I suppose this isn't the first platform to offer file sharing.

And someone actually got paid to choose this name.

Sure. It's part of their cloud computing initiative. ;)

>>Microsoft has beaten Google to the punch with this free online storage service.

First thing I thought. After the gmail plugin thing for file storage I thought Google would have introduced it ages ago. Way to go MS for beating G to the punch. Of course, it never would have been "free" from MS w/o the mega-storage Gmail/search wars. Reminds me of Site Explorer and Google's return volley of a more useful Webmaster Tools. Damn there are breathing ppl(& webmasters!) paying attention at Y!/MS.

Wow, very useful, file size limit of 50mb/file but very nice to be able to setup folder/sub folders. Can't wait to see the Google response :)

I hope this doesn't mean they'll stop their FolderShare service - I'm hooked on that.

FolderShare service

FolderShare [foldershare.com] is a very different service. That synchronizes folders containing up to 10K files each on multiple PCs. The SkyDrive capacity is nowhere near the level it would need to threaten FolderShare anytime soon.
