I own a small event planning firm, and never had $ to have someone do my website, so I learned enough (using dreamweaver) to create one on my own. It was fairly current up until the last years or so, at which point I was unable to keep up with technology, and did not have enought tech knowledge to add the featured I wanted to, such as a nicer gallery page (very imprtant for my business) etc. I finally bbroke down and paid a company to re-design my page, and like the look of it for the most part, but realized that now everything is .asp instead of htm, and will soon be .php when it gets moved to a new server. I am worried how this affect my google ranking, as with my old self-designed .htm site I am on the first page when plugging in some relevant keywords! I am desperate to not loose that, but when I speak to the website design company about it, they seem to have no clue about any of that. I have always doen my homework on things, and am frustrated that they lack this knowledge - where can I find out more? can i do a re-direct? help?

unless you get some 301 permanent redirects in ther quick like you are going to lose your ranking because the 404 (page not found) error will be thrown when se's try to crawl the .htm files which are indexed...

you mean to tell me that someone actually just went ahead and changed the extensions without telling you about the serps reprocussions?

tisk tisk...

depending on how long the new extensions have been in use coupled with the frequency of crawler visits to your site, you might be just lucky enough to revert back to .htm files ... if not you are toast and will have to start over again (regarding rankings)...

... clearly you are saying that you value your first page rankings for x keyphrases...

p.m. me and i'll try to help you.
