Redesigning The Site To Get Rid Of Frames

How to retain PR

Hi,

Now I got this client who has an old site that uses frames. I'd like to redesign it but I am keeping the original file names in order to retain the PR which is pretty high.

It is interesting that the actual framesets are PR0 but the main (body) page of the frameset is PR3 or 4 (with some exceptions). Though, it is the frameset which contains all the metas and title.

Is it OK that I keep the filenames of the body pages and just transfer the metas and title from the frameset pages?

I'm just trying to make it as painless as possible :)

Thanks.

The short answer is yes. (and that is the right way to go about it). Just nuke the setup/frameset page.

Thank you for your reply.

And then there will be a bunch of leftover pages, which will be sought after by GG. Can I just 301 them to the pages I need? E.g.:

I had keyword_frameset.html containing keyword_body.html
Now keyword_body.html will be accessible directly and the old keyword_frameset will be 301-ed to the body page. Right?

Ya, you can 301 them, but why not put some quality content on that page?

My only thought is to worry more about where real world searches are landing rather than PR.

Well, don't discount the age of a url. Most of us think that age is part of the algo in someway; both as a freshness aspect and a trusted age as well.
