Verizon DSL and domain issues

Help! I was told when I signed up for Verizon DSL that I would be able to build a personal webpage and instead of having "verizon.net" in the name, I could use a domain I already own through 1and1.com. Well, naturally I need the name of the server so I can assign it to my domain, but after 4 phone calls and 2 online chats they act like I'm speaking Martian or something and they say they don't understand what I need. I've done this before with another provider so I KNOW it can be done. My question is: Did they lie to me? Does Verizon offer the ability to do this or not? Or am I not asking the right questions? Thanks for any help.

Are you hosting this personal web page on your DSL line or are you hosting it on a Verizon server?

If it's the former, you don't need Verizon to do anything. You can do it all yourself. Assuming it's not a violation of your AUP with Verizon.

If you want Verizon (or its subcontractor) to host it, I've never heard of being able to use your own domain name. That's a lot to ask for a free service.

I host a personal web site hosted at home using my Roadrunner account and zoneedit for DNS services (free). Of course, RR doesn't offer any support but they don't say I can't, either, like some of them.

I asked these questions when I was deciding which way i wanted to go and Verizon assured me it wasn't a problem. All I had to do once I got my web page ready was give them a call and we'd take it from there. That's why I went with them. Silly me for believing them! The web page is hosted on one of their servers.

PS: I was a little suprised, too, when they told me about using my own domain name, but not as surpised as I was to find out I can use my free webspace for business purposes. Go figure.
