<H1> tags in a Wordpress blog

Is it just a waste?

Generally, there is a consensus that usage of a <H1> tag on a page can count towards the on page factors used to determing the value of a page. Most of the time, <H1> tags contain a summary of the page such as <H1>Page about purple widgets</H1>, so it gives the viewer an idea about what to expect in the following text.

My question however, is related to how Wordpress displays the tag and the text displayed in it. The website name, particularly. If you look at the H1 tag for this thread, its <H1>Webmaster General</H1> which is ehhh.... but imagine if its <H1>Webmasterworld.com</H1>, how pointless would that be, particularly if it is the same header on each and every single page on the site?

Has anyone ever messed around with customizing CMS apps or packaged apps like Wordpress and tried to address this particular issue? Do any of you think that it really poses a problem in terms of on page factors? Am I just spinning to much from the amount of coffee?

you may want to look at the wordpress doc for header style and design [codex.wordpress.org].
you have plenty of control over what your wordpress headers show.

i have heard many experts here and elsewhere emphasize the importance of H1 tag usage and content.

the header on this page is the name of the forum.
the post title is already used for the page title.
i'm not sure what else you would use for the H1 tag in this instance...

I'm certainly thinking of having the H1 tag contain the name of the post, just not sure of how that would work out in the long run. Will have to think about it for awhile.
