suppose you have a decent site, killer name, great idea--albeit in a competitive area--and can be much
much stronger if bought out by say a newspaper group. How do you start? Email execs at those companies?

It's a normal site, not VC backed or with a board of directors :) that could hook you up with people etc.

thanks

Depends on a lot of things, but the key question is whether you are selling a 'potentially lucrative' site - or one that's already trading successfully.

If it's about potential, then a direct person-to-person communication might be the best idea; persuade one person, and they'll do the rest.

If the site is already earning, then it will already be on their radar, so working too hard to sell may actually reduce your price.

I'd just 'let it be known' that the site may be for sale, either via a friendly but established blog, or a press release. I'm not talking about SEOspam press releases, which just make you look stupid, but a serious one to cnet, theregister, reuters, whoever in the real world of journalism.

thanks quadrille,
it is doing very well--relatively speaking--but obviously it can do so much better with them on board. I, of course, could use some peace of mind and focus on another thing or two.
