With all the hoopla surrounding the announcement of Google Knols, I wanted to find out more about its expected launch date. I then came across this entry on Wikipedia (ironically enough) that says Knols is currently in Private Beta and "requests to create 'knols' are currently by ivitation only."

[google.com...]

I was wondering if anyone had any idea what topics these invitees might be focusing on. If they were invited by Google to write I would imagine that they are authorities in their respective topics, and that these topics would be among those that will fare well in the "peer review" process and subsequently be ranked #1 in the SERPS.

For anyone thinking of making the contribution of knols a business enterprise, it would be interesting to know which topics will be covered in Private Beta and hence will be 'spoken for' when Knols is launched publicly.

Google has been quoted as saying that Knol can have competing articles on the same topic, so being first in line for a given topic is likely to be nice but not essential.
